new job

got a new job. I’m going to be moving back to Los Angeles in a few weeks to cover the business of the television industry for IndieWire.

My last day at the Ventura County Star is May 10. This also means I won’t be writing album reviews for Metal Injection for the foreseeable future. So, that last blog post where I said my byline would still occasionally pop up on that site is now WRONG!!!

I’m crazily excited to be joining the IndieWire team. I never intended to be a business reporter, but I have grown to genuinely enjoy working parts of the local business beat. Stereotypes or whatever, but most 20-something dudes don’t get that fired up by policy minutia and economics. Guilty! But I believe that forcing myself to report on a subject outside my interests had multiple benefits, including just making me a better reporter in general.

With that in mind, I believe the new job could be a best of both worlds sort of scenario. If the content on this blog and my social media weren’t clear enough, I’ve been trying to position myself to become a pop culture reporter for years. While I’m proud of my local business coverage at the Ventura County Star, I believe my work will be even better when I’m covering a topic I personally find more engaging. And since I’ll still be covering the business side of the industry, my prior experience covering that sort of…Alright, this is starting to read like a reiteration of my cover letter, so I’ll stop.

Anyway, like I did for the Ventura County Star, I’ll continue to use this site to share some reporting from my new job. But since I don’t plan on freelancing for the foreseeable future, that’s about it. For now.

ok thanks
